frequently asked questions

  • Sponsorship funds that you have raised through the Give Wheel platform are collected directly by the recipient charity. Any remaining funds generated through merchandise for example, will be allocated back out to the charity supported by the merchandise provider.

  • All funds raised by you will go to the charities selected with the exception of fees charged directly by the platforms that make this event possible (eg Give Wheel) and the merchandise where the partners providing this cover their product costs and then the profits are provided to the charities - see the charities page for more info. For charges please see the individual platforms such as Give Wheel.

  • As part of the registration process everybody identifies their target mileage for the month of September – a target that feels right for them. The actual kilometres tracked can be through popular apps such as Strava or Garmin which connect with the Challenge for Change app; alternatively, if individuals do not have access to such apps then they can self-declare the kilometres they have undertaken manually. If you are estimating steps then use 1500 steps as the equivalent of a kilometre (For an average person, one kilometre usually requires around 1,300 to 1,500 steps. This estimate can vary depending on a person's stride length, which can be influenced by factors like height, leg length, and walking speed. Generally, a shorter person will have a shorter stride length and might take more steps to cover the same distance than a taller person.)

  • Yes and No to that one. We want the funds raised to help charities supporting children in poverty or those who need extra help worldwide. The charities must be listed on Give Wheel to enable the sponsorship to go directly to the charities. Within that definition then we want you to choose the charity that is local or most meaningful to you. If it is helping support children and is on Give Wheel, then yes, select your preferred charity here.

  • Set a kilometre target that works for you—whether it's 1 kilometre, 10, or even 100! Choose a goal you can achieve during September 2026 (30 days).

Think you can go further? If you normally walk 1 kilometre, aim for 2. If you usually cover 10, push for 17!

Already part of a club or tackling your own challenge? Dedicate it to this cause—it’s a win-win!

We’re travelling the continents of the globe sustainably—powered by you. Every kilometre counts, whether you walk, run, cycle, row, swim, use a scooter, or mix it up!

For those using Strava or Garmin to track their kilometres the good news is this will synchronise your kilometres automatically with the app!

Share your page, rally your network, and invite others to join the challenge. Let’s make every kilometre count!

  • Simply register on the app, click through to Give Wheel and follow the instructions to set up your page.

  • There is no registration fee this year as the cost has kindly been covered by Give Wheel. All we ask is that you donate an appropriate fee (decided by you) to the charity of your choice and get the fundraising started!

  • Yes, you can choose to participate as a team or an individual. Either way you need to register via the app.

  • You can only create a profile on the app if you are over 18, so we suggest the head of the school or club creates a profile and registers for the event.

    The school/club can register as:

    - First Name: ‘School

    - Last Name: ‘Full School Name

Then, you can assess the total kilometres at the end of the week of the children as a collective and upload this.

  • Yes, participants can choose what is right for them. The legitimate activities are active and sustainable (ie not power driven) and include walking, running, cycling, swimming and electric scooters for the less mobile participants. Alternatively activities where you can track your steps such as dancing, indoor cycling etc are also viable options.

  • We are a team of volunteers that have given up their time to plan and execute Challenge for Change. There is no organisation or business as such so please bear with us in terms of answering any questions you may have.

  • Challenge for Change is linking the following systems as effectively as possible however each system has a separate and bespoke purpose:

Challege for Change website - specifically built to communicate what the challenge is and how it works

Total Active Hub is a separate company who have developed the app for Challenge for Change. Total Active Hub supports companies to find creative ways to promote physical activity in the workplace.

Give Wheel is our partner that processes sponsorship funds for the participants to their selected charities

Merchandising - our partner is LogoYo that is one of the leading suppliers of promotional products and merchandise. They have developed a shop portal for participants to purchase merchandise should they wish to.

  • You can only raise money on Give Wheel for an organisation that is already registered on the site.

There are 3 possibilities in this situation: 1) Support one of the global children’s charities that is on Give Wheel 2) Do local fundraising outside of the process (although this will likely not count within the totals raised) or 3) Focus on the kilometre challenge and don’t fund raise.
